World takes its iris tech into banking with first industry-specific World ID suite

2 min read

World has launched the first industry-specific version of its World ID verification product, a suite built for banks and financial firms, and its Zoom deepfake check is now generally available.

Co-founder Alex Blania unveiled the bank suite at Money20/20 on October 18. It bundles three tools: the World ID app, World ID for Zoom and World ID for Agents, which World also calls AgentKit. The Zoom app went generally available in the Zoom App Marketplace on October 16, after a beta that ran from April through Zoom’s independent software vendor exchange program.

The move pushes the project, formerly known as Worldcoin and operated by Tools for Humanity, from consumer identity into regulated finance for the first time. The pitch is aimed at AI impersonation fraud, and World cites a Deloitte forecast that AI-enabled fraud losses in the US could reach $40 billion by 2027, up from an estimated $12.3 billion in 2023.

World is working with OpenExchange, Bain Capital, VanEck Funds and Outtake as design partners to explore how the technology fits banking. None of them is a signed customer: the announcement named no bank using the product and disclosed no pricing.

Inside a Zoom call, the verification tool runs a three-way cryptographic match between the iris reference image captured at an Orb device, a selfie from the user’s own device and the live video frame. A pass earns the participant a “Verified Human” badge. World said the suite is meant to sit alongside existing KYC checks as an extra privacy-preserving layer, not replace them, with wire transfers and executive approvals as the target use cases.

“World ID for banking and finance offers a suite of tools to add an AI-safe trust layer across their internal and external systems,” said Sandro Herbig, president of Tools for Humanity.

World said more than 18 million people now hold a Proof of Human, its credential for a verified human identity. The launch follows a string of enterprise moves this year: AgentKit entered beta in March on Coinbase’s x402 protocol, and World Money, a self-custody app with stablecoin payments in more than 150 countries, launched in September.
