OKXICE files to tokenize 60+ US stocks with Uniswap-style trading

A regulatory filing from OKXICE, the joint venture between crypto exchange OKX and NYSE owner Intercontinental Exchange, lists more than 60 US securities it plans to offer in tokenized form.

The filing, hosted on OKX’s own site, names Nvidia, Tesla, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Coinbase, Circle, Robinhood, JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs and Walmart among the tokens planned. Each token would be backed one-for-one by a real share held with a registered broker-dealer, so one Nvidia token means one Nvidia share, with dividends and voting rights attached, the filing states.

Trading would not run through an order book. OKXICE plans to route trades through automated market maker pools on XLayer, the blockchain OKX developed, using Uniswap’s infrastructure. Settlement currencies would be USDC, USDT and USDG, and the venue plans to stay open around the clock, including nights and weekends, when the NYSE itself is dark.

For DeFi readers, that is the notable part. The market infrastructure that Uniswap pioneered for token swaps would sit under a venue whose parent company owns the New York Stock Exchange, with identity and anti-money-laundering checks required before anyone can trade, per the filing. No anonymous users, but the matching engine is a liquidity pool.

Inclusion is not guaranteed. Companies can object to having their shares tokenized during a 30-day window, and Cerebras has already objected, according to the filing. Analysts at TD Securities put it plainly: “No symbol is a given.”

There is a regulatory wrinkle too. The SEC relief behind the project runs for five years rather than creating permanent rules, which analysts have suggested could make large financial firms hesitant to connect their systems to a market whose foundation could later change.

No launch date has been announced.
