BitMart is working on a plan to pay creditors and restart some operations. This comes weeks after the exchange told users it was shutting down.
White & Case is now restructuring counsel. A detailed roadmap is due by no later than September 9, 2026, per an official BitMart announcement. Legal, financial, operational, and regulatory reviews all must clear first.
The September 9 date matters. For users with funds still stuck on the platform, it is the next concrete marker in an insolvency process that began when BitMart announced its closure. The original shutdown timeline had set trading to end on August 26, CryptoBriefing reported.
BitMart’s earlier shutdown notice had already drawn scrutiny. Prior reporting indicated the exchange’s founder had dismissed calls for an independent audit while users reported blocked withdrawals and unpaid employees.
The new proposal would resume partial operations. Not a full relaunch. Distributions to creditors are part of the framework, though BitMart has not disclosed amounts owed, creditor classes, or which specific services would come back online.
What the announcement does not say is as telling as what it does. No figure for total creditor claims. No timeline for when users might access frozen funds beyond the roadmap deadline. No mention of regulatory involvement.
Bringing on White & Case, a firm with a track record in cross-border restructuring, signals BitMart is treating this as a formal insolvency rather than an ad hoc closure. In practice, creditors would likely be paid through a structured plan rather than a simple withdrawal reopen. Assuming the roadmap holds.
The pivot to a partial restart does not guarantee recovery. Restructuring roadmaps in crypto insolvencies have repeatedly slipped past initial deadlines. Creditor payouts in similar cases have taken months or years to materialize.
BitMart has not said whether the phased restart would apply to trading, withdrawals, or other functions. The September 9 roadmap is expected to provide those details.
Holders, as ever, are waiting.
